National Film Awards which are given out annually every year is one of the most prestigious recognition Indian cinema gets from the government. While the committee carefully selects and awards them under various categories, it also provides a chance for us to explore the multiple branches of Indian cinema. Thenmerku Paruvakaatru is 2010 drama film written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy. In Vijay Sethupathi's debut as lead actor, the film is about a shepherd who falls in love with a woman who steals his livestock. At the 58th National Film Awards, it bagged the Best Feature Film in Tamil and Saranya Ponvannan received Best Supporting Actress. The film also stars Vasundhara Kashyap, Aruldoss, and others.
Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam is a Malayalam comedy drama helmed by Senna Hegde. The film is set in Kasaragod and revolves around an engagement, with each family member brooding over their own problems. The film stars Manok KU, Ajisha Prabhakaran, Anagha Narayanan and others. Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam won the Best Feature Film in Malayalam at the 68th National Film Awards.
Kadaisi Vivasayi is a drama film directed by M Manikandan. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi along with Yogi Babu and farmer Nallandi in lead roles. Kadaisi Vivasayi bagged the Best Feature Film In Tamil, Special Mention for actor Nallandi at the 69th National Film Awards. Though it did not perform well at the box office, the film received immense critical acclaim.
Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum is an anthology film helmed by Vasanth Sai. Starring Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, Parvathy Thiruvottu, Kalieswari Srinivasa, Sundar Ramu, Karunakaran and others, the film is divided into three parts exploring the struggles of womanhood told through the lens of patriarchy. The film won three National Film Awards, Best Feature Film in Tamil, Best Supporting Actress and Best Editing.
Piku is a Hindi comedy drama directed by Shoojit Sircar. Headlined by Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, Piku is about a father and daughter relationship. As the duo share a dysfunctional relationship, a road trip brings them together. Amitabh Bachchan won his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor at the 63rd National Film Awards.
