The world of Hellboy is something that has always been quite complicated in terms of its reception. The movie, set in a superhero realm with an anti-hero for the titular character, is quite unique and was first brought to the live-action world by the legendary Guillermo del Toro. The filmmaker, who gave us two movies with Ron Perlman as the Right Hand of Doom, was always asked about their movie, which never really saw the light of day. Instead, Hellboy (2019) came along, where Neil Marshall reprised the IP for live-action with David Harbour as the leading man. However, the movie was not well received, and the drama behind the making also made news. Neil is now talking about the same.

Neil Marshall has always been vocal about the drama that went behind the making of Hellboy and the tug-of-war with the producers. The filmmaker has now spoken again, especially as Hellboy: The Crooked Man is gearing up for release and the criticism around it is prominent. In an event interview, the filmmaker said that the character is probably not made for films. Read on to know everything about the same.

Talking about the same to Comic Book Movie, Neil Marshall said, “Maybe not, yeah. It could be that it's not meant for the screen in that sense or in a way that translates from the comic books," he acknowledged. "I love Guillermo's movies. I'm not that super loyal to the comic books in the sense that I treat them in their own right. I think they're good movies because Guillermo is an excellent director and, visually, they're stunning."

"I did my best and what I could with what I had under difficult circumstances, but even now, I was just down in Spain for a film festival, and I had loads of people come up to me asking about Hellboy," Marshall continued. "They screened the film there and, who knows, maybe it will grow a little fanbase."

Hellboy on Streaming

So far, the Hellboy franchise has witnessed three movies in the world of live-action, with the fourth one in the making. Ron Perlman and David Harbour have both played the part and have been loved. Jack Kesy is now taking over, and his first look has not impressed many. However, we are yet to watch the film. Hellboy (2004) streams on JioCinema, Hellboy: The Golden Army (2008) on Netflix, and Hellboy (2019) on Lionsgate Play.
