Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece and actor Sharmin Segal has been receiving flak for her performance in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. She played the role of Alamzeb in Bhansali's OTT debut show and has been relentlessly trolled by viewers ever since the show was released on the streaming giant Netflix. Now, the actress finally broke her silence about the same.
Recently when Sharmin was in an interview with News18, she spoke about all the trolling and hate she has been receiving since the show was released. She mentioned that according to her, the audience is the king and she needs to acknowledge them as it is very important. She said, "They have a right to their opinion – positive or negative. That’s one thing that gives me perspective and allows me to be okay."
The actress also believes that not every response was negative and she has also been receiving positive responses as well but the internet chose to focus more on negative parts and trolling. “I had given my all to Alamzeb’s character. We tend to fixate on the negatives but there are so many positives that have also come along, which we don’t talk about. It’s perhaps not interesting enough to talk about positives and we tend to look over them to some degree," she said.
Sharmin Segal, who made her acting debut with the 2019 film Malaal, also revealed that she avoided all the discussions about her character in the show until a few weeks. However, she then finally decided to read everything as she thought she was losing out on a lot of the love she was receiving. "I’ve now started paying attention to that. Over the last few days, I decided to look through it all. The audience’s opinion is what will probably help you be the best version of yourself," she concluded.
Meanwhile, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazar boasts an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman. The show is currently streaming on Netflix.
