Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his digital debut with his big project - Heeramandi. The show, which is currently streaming on Netflix became the talk of the town since its release. Apart from the powerful performances, the show has been garnering attention for multiple things including Sharmin Segal's social media trolling, second season announcement, and many more! Now, another update from the show shared by actor Jason Shah, who plays the role of Cartwright in the show is doing rounds on the internet.
Jason recently opened up about working on the show and said that the atmosphere was not entirely pleasant but stressful. He also stated that it “lacked the simple niceties of human nature.” When asked if he was treated equally on set or faced discrimination, Shah told NDTV, “I found it to be lacking just simple niceties of human nature. I wasn’t introduced to many people over there, which I found very odd and a little confusing.”
“Then I started to think that since I play the villain, they want me to be angry and disconnected from everybody. But for me, being connected to a human being on set never boils over into my character. I definitely felt a little bit out of place, but I guess you just keep on going with the flow of things,” he added.
Jason also recalled the first meeting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and revealed that he had a script in his hand while he was sitting inside one of the rooms of his office when Bhansali arrived. After nonchalantly looking at a cupboard, the filmmakers looked over and said a very silent Hi to the actor, he revealed. He further added, "I realised later that he had come to see me to check if the guy that he chose would be able to carry it off.” He said that he only had a few interactions with the filmmaker afterwards."
Meanwhile, Heeramandi boasts an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal Mehta and Taha Shah Badussha. The series was released on Netflix on 1 May 2024. A month later, it was renewed for a second season.
