There are only a few projects that can create a buzz as massive as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, popularly known as Heeramandi, has managed to make. There are many reasons to be excited about the project. First, it is the maverick filmmaker's OTT debut. He is also collaborating with his first leading lady, Manisha Koirala, on this project. The cast of Heeramandi also includes some of the most stellar actresses of the current generation, and the scale is not just the usual Bhansali grand, but even grander than what we have seen so far.
So when there is a massive fandom waiting for the show to drop on Netflix, you understand the anticipation. It turns out that Bhansali is here to satisfy the anticipation until the show hits streaming giant Netflix, as the production house just announced the release date for the first song of the show, titled Sakal Ban. Announced on the official page of Bhansali Productions, the announcement comes exactly a day after the maverick filmmaker announced his music label.
Marking International Women’s Day and the announcement of his music label, Bhansali announced the release of the first song from Heeramandi and revealed that it will drop tomorrow. The caption for the post that features Sanjeeda Shaikh, Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, and Aditi Rao Hydari read, “This spring, the flowers of strength and beauty blossom. Sakal Ban, the first song from Heeramandi out tomorrow. Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is coming soon, only on Netflix!”.
The song Sakal Ban, as per the poster, is a traditional composition with lyrics from the legendary poet Amir Khusro and sung by Raja Hasan. From the looks that the ladies on the poster are donning, this is the same song that was also teased in the first-look teaser. The music of Heeramandi has been composed by Bhansali himself. Reports have said that the show that is set to stream on Netflix will have six to seven songs, all featuring a grand setup. Bhansali has worked on the music of the show for over a year, and that has indeed led to some very stunning results.
Meanwhile, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has no release date attached to it yet. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is serving as a showrunner and will also be the director for some episodes. Vibhu Puri has been hired as a co-director, and the show also stars Sharmin Sehgal, Sonakshi Sinha, Fardeen Khan, and more. The character posters for all the ladies were released recently with a very interesting sneak peek into the show that was a part of the Netflix 2024 slate announced video.
