After showcasing the dark world of prostitution in Kamathipura and the real-life story of a matriarch in the Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to make a Netflix web series Heeramandi starring Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha and Manisha Koirala in lead roles. Meanwhile, according to the latest reports, veteran star Rekha will also be joining the cast.

The upcoming venture is about the three generations of courtesans in Heera mandi (now in Pakistan), a dazzling district, during pre-independent India. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's utmost urge to cast Rekha Ji in his project was doing rounds among the audience for some time. Meanwhile, according to the latest report on Bollywood Hungama, Like the ace filmmaker, Rekha also has been willing to work with him for a long time. Just to cast the veteran star in his highly anticipated project, Bhansali has written a special script of Heeramandi that has a special role, especially for the Silsila actress.

Apart from Aditi, Sonakshi and Manisha, Madhuri Dixit, Huma Qureshi and Richa Chadha will also be seen in major roles in Heeramandi.

As the film is based on a famous Red Light District in Lahore, Heeramandi has been the talk of the town not just in India but in Pakistan as well.

Heeramandi, which used to be ruled by Hira Singh, son of Raja Ranjit Singh, was also known as the royal area.

Interestingly, according to a trivia on IMDB, Bhansali offered a major role in the series to the veteran star Mumtaz, while the gorgeous actress rejected it by saying that she won't be allowed to dance for her part at this stage of her life.

The Indian director-producer is gearing up to officially announce the series to movie-buffs soon. Backed by Netflix studio, Heeramandi will exclusively stream on Netflix.
