Heart of the Hunter follows Zuko Khumalo, the protagonist, who appears to be a simple, unassuming gentleman with a deadly past. When his blissful existence is shattered by intrusion from his past and a call of honor to an oath made, Khumalo is forced to come out of his tranquil retirement. He must go on a mission if he intends to protect the country, including his family, from corrupt political machinations.
The stakes rise and tension builds as Zuko initially resists going back to a life of chaos, adrenaline hikes, close shaves, and death. But when he realises the magnitude of the crisis at hand, he is forced to go on a 72-hour mission via car chases and stolen bike rides. And he cannot fail, as he must stop the dangerous political threats to the country’s peace and his family’s existence.
Shot against incredible African locations, Heart of the Hunter uses physical landscape to highlight the interior landscape of its characters. Starring an ensemble cast of iconic South African actors, the film features Bonko Khoza as Zuko Khumalo, along with the likes of Masasa Mbangeni, Connie Ferguson, Tim Theron, Peter Butler, Deon Coetzee, Sisanda Henna, and Connie Chiume in prominent roles.
