Head Bush – The Rise and Rise of Bengaluru, the first instalment of the MP Jayaraj biopic, released in theatres today. The film, produced by lead actor Dhananjaya, who plays the slain gangster, has been directed by debutant Shoonya and is based on the book by former gangster Agni Sridhar, about his time in the underworld. Also starring Payal Rajput, Vasishta N Simha, Sruthi Hariharan, Raghu Mukherjee, Loose Mada Yogi, Balu Nagendra, Devaraj and Prakash Belawadi, among others, the film opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
The first part of the film traces the rise of Jayaraj in Bengaluru’s underworld, making him the city’s first gangster. His clash with Kotwal (played by Vasishta), as well as the introduction of characters like Agni Sridhar and Muthappa Rai, is expected to be in the next part. However, Dhananjaya has clarified that the second instalment is not in the works yet. The team has to still decide what content to choose for the next instalment. Most importantly, the actor-producer’s next step in that direction will depend on the first part’s reception at the box office.
The film is a Zee Studios release, with Zee5 Kannada the digital partner. Rated ‘A’ for its violent content and foul language, Head Bush is expected to start streaming after 48-days from the theatrical release. The earliest estimated date on which Head Bush is likely to begin streaming is December 9. There’s been no official confirmation from the streamer on this, but the trend for bigger titles has been to begin streaming between 48 to 60 days.
Although Head Bush had first been announced as a pan-India release, eventually, the makers decided against it and have released it as a Kannada film only. Dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam are likely, but at a later stage.
