Daali Dhananjaya’s second venture as a film producer, Head Bush, has hit the big screens. The film comes as an adaptation of Agni Sreedhar’s popular novel My Days in the Underworld and is centred on the making of MP Jayaraj who is regarded in many ways as Bengaluru’s very first gangster. Dhananjaya plays Jayaraj in the film which has been directed by debutant Shoonya.
Head Bush opened in theatres on October 21 to mixed reviews with many praising Dhananjaya’s on-screen presence but criticising the weak character treatment and execution on the makers’ part. However, keeping the lead actor’s vast fan base in mind, one expected the opening day to be eventful at the box office. According to the latest reports, the film is off to a moderate start and has earned Rs. 1.25 crores (net) on the opening day.
This leaves Head Bush in a slightly tricky spot and the first weekend of the theatrical run will play a huge role in the film’s eventual success. Although the overall budget of the making of the film isn’t a matter of public knowledge yet, a few online reports have claimed the figure to be more than Rs. 25 crores so Dhananjaya & Co., considering the opening day results, have an uphill task ahead. The same box office reports estimate Head Bush to earn approximately Rs. 1.0 crores on Day #2 (Saturday) in terms of net value.
And to make things only tougher, Head Bush has the force of Kantara to reckon with and the fact that Rishab Shetty’s film is managing to pull crowds even in the fourth week of its theatrical run does not help either. On the other hand, fans are keenly looking forward to the release of Gandhada Gudi which marks the final on-screen appearance of Powerstar Puneeth Rajkumar.
Dhananjaya produces the film under his home banner of Daali Pictures in association with Somanna Talkies. The film’s cast also includes Payal Rajput, Vasishta N. Simha, Yogesh, Raghu Mukherjee, Sruthi Hariharan, Balu Nagendra, Devaraj, Prakash Belawadi, and others. Charan Raj scores the film’s music with Sunoj Velayudhan handling the cinematography.
