HBD Nelson Dilipkumar: Here is where you can watch the director's black comedy films

Director Nelson Dilipkumar is celebrating his birthday today (June 21). Nelson’s brand of cinema is mostly dark comedy and he is known for his quirky style of filmmaking and humorous side. Even though he has helmed only a handful of them, Nelson has managed to create a name for himself in Tamil cinema. While he is yet to announce his next directorial, here is where you can stream his films.

Jailer – SunNXT

Jailer is an action drama headlined by Rajinikanth. The film marks the first time the superstar collaborated with Nelson Dilipkumar. In Jailer, Rajinikanth plays Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer who lives with his family and helps out his grandson making videos on YouTube. However, after a smuggler kidnaps his son, the former jailer has to join forces to bring back him. The film also stars Vasanth Ravi, Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa Menon, Vinayak and others. Apart from them, Jailer also features cameo appearances by Tamannaah Bhatia, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Sunil, and Shivraj Kumar. A sequel to Jailer is reportedly in making, however an official announcement has yet to be made.

Kolamavu Kokila – ZEE5

Kolamavu Kokila is Nelson Dilipkumar’s directorial debut and features Nayanthara in the lead role. The film revolves around a simple girl, Kokila, who gets into the drug smuggling trade in order to make quick cash and save her family from poverty. The film was a commercial success and also stars Yogi Babu, Saranya Ponvannan, RS Shivaji, Charles Vinoth, Hareesh Peradi and others. Kolamavu Kokila was eventually remade in Hindi as Good Luck Jerry, featuring Janhvi Kapoor.

Doctor – SunNXT

Doctor is a black comedy drama starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. The film is backed by KJR Studios and is about a military doctor who has to aid his fiancée and her family after her sister gets abducted by a human trafficking ring. Doctor stars Priyanka Arul Mohan, Vinay Rai, Yogi Babu, and others. Doctor became a critically acclaimed film and Sivakarthikeyan’s portrayal of a stoic-faced doctor was highly praised.

Beast – SunNXT

Beast is headlined by Vijay and features Pooja Hedge as the female lead. The film is about how a shopping complex gets hijacked by a group of terrorists. However, one of the hostages turns out to be a former military agent who saved the day. Beast opened to mixed reviews upon its release. The film also stars Selvaraghavan, Redin Kingsley, Aparna Das, and others.
