Crossovers and creating a film universe are things many filmmakers are exploring in Indian cinema. Now, it's time to explore a scriptwriter's universe, and who better to do so than Kanika Dhillon and her quirky characters? Whether it's in Haseen Dillruba (2018), Kedarnath (2018), or Manmarziyaan (2018), the scriptwriter has recently offered Hindi films several strong female characters. According to rumours, Dhillon, who is producing the next film, Do Patti, is thinking about creating a movie universe with some of these characters. Each story will stand on its own, but we may expect to see characters from both stories interact, much like in YRF's spy universe.

Kanika Dhillon's diverse characters share a trait: Fearless decision makers

According to reports in Mid Day, if one were to judge the characters in these movies by the genre to which they belong, they couldn't be more dissimilar from one another. Their shared trait, though, is that they are both fearless and unapologetic when it comes to making a decision. According to a source, Haseen Dillruba was the most-watched Hindi film on Netflix in 2021, which prompted its creators to make Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. On the other hand, Do Patti portrays Kajol as a police officer on the hunt for Saumya Sood (Kriti Sanon). Some characters will soon be part of a crossover universe that Kanika intends to establish.

After Dhillon established her production company, Kathha Pictures, in 2023, she began to plot her future moves. Speaking about this, she revealed to the tabloid that her female characters are flawed, stubborn, and prone to making rash decisions. Making characters that others can relate to is an innate human urge. While she does have some projects in the works with strong female leads, the screenwriter is holding off on announcing the star cast for the time being.

Future projects: Strong independent women in Kanika Dhillon's films

When asked if there's a strategy to create a film universe starring these people, what if Sanon's Saumya and Pannu's Rani were to cross paths? Dhillon said, "Yes, why not?" Her next films include a number of strong, independent women. Also, fans adored Manmarziyaan's Rumi, Haseen Dillruba's Rani, and Judgementall Hai Kya's Bobby. With her luck, the next chapters will be just as well received. She added that now is the perfect moment to deliver fresh narratives with compelling protagonists to the big screen.
