Delhi Crime (2019) showrunner Richie Mehta is going back to the story of India's independence. His unnamed historical drama will focus on the women who were instrumental in the Indian independence movement but were often overlooked by males like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah. The popular filmmaker is rumoured to be in talks with Priyanka Chopra Jonas to star in the show.
The purpose of producing a period drama is to examine the fight for liberation from a female perspective.
An insider assured Midday that the show would reveal the characters' trials, tribulations, and eventual success. Kasturba Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, and Aruna Asaf Ali are just a few of the female independence fighters whose stories will be told, along with those of other women whose voices have been underrepresented. The intricate network of events that formed India's history can be better understood through their accounts. Richie thought Priyanka was the ideal fit for the role because of her fiery attitude and versatility as an actress.
The performer, who is also working on the second season of Citadel, Heads of State, and the Hindi feature Jee Le Zaraa, will have a lot on her plate if this new project goes forward.
During her recent interviews, Priyanka has been making intimate and personal revelations about herself and her two-decade-long career in the movies. While talking to Prime Video via a lie detector test, Priyanka spoke about the film she was a part of but didn't like.
The actor said that she won't spoil the film, but she will say that it was a terrible experience. For a long time, PeeCee would just sit and wait. Her dialogue made no sense, and she was portrayed as a damsel in distress, which she is not. It was, therefore, not easy.
