BTS recently made an announcement regarding the enlistment of the remaining four members — RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — by December for their mandatory military service in South Korea. However, media outlets are buzzing with reports that Kim Taehyung aka V has applied for the Special Mission Unit (Special Task Force) at the ARMY Capital Defence Command. This anti-terrorism unit operates directly under the President's control.

What is the Special Duty Team (SDT), also known as a 'special mission unit'?

SDT is a military police unit deployed at various military levels to respond to violent crimes, conduct counter-terrorism operations, arrest armed deserters within the military, engage in special operations, and execute mobile strikes in urban areas.

K-ARMY, some of whom have close ones in this division, have shared insights into the recruitment process for such units, emphasizing the need for a high IQ and strong mental prowess.

According to a user named Tae Guide on X (formerly known as Twitter), "Taehyung applied on August 31/September 6, after the 1st round of selection he had an interview on October 12, and then the final announcement/final result was on October 26. Once the final selection process was completed he was assigned a date for December."

During a Layover Listening Party on Station Head, V expressed his excitement about passing his military exam and progressing through the final selection process. Notably, he had an interview for SDT just two days before his first solo fan meeting, Vicnic.

As fans learned about Kim Taehyung's application for the Special Mission Unit at the Army Capital Defense Command, many started referring to him as "Captain" on social media.

What about the other members?

RM is scheduled to begin basic training at the Nonsan centre on December 11, enlisting as a regular active-duty soldier. Earlier reports indicated that Jimin and Jungkook would enlist on December 12, starting basic training at the New Recruit Training Center in Yeoncheon, where Jin currently serves as an assistant instructor.

In response to these reports, Big Hit Music issued a brief statement, stating that it cannot confirm any information regarding the assignment of the members at this time.
