At Max, the streaming platform formerly known as HBO Max, the Harry Potter TV series is formally unveiled. The CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, has disclosed plans for a live-action television series based on the polarising books by J.K. Rowling. Wednesday morning, during a presentation outlining the integration of HBO Max and Discovery+, Zaslav made the announcement. As anticipated, HBO Max has also undergone a formal rebranding and is now known simply as "Max."
According to Max, the series will bring the tales from each of Rowling's Harry Potter books compiled into a ten-part series that will be made with the same epic skill, devotion, and care for which this worldwide franchise is renowned. In addition to the wonderful detail, beloved characters, and dramatic settings that Harry Potter fans have cherished for more than 25 years, the series will have a fresh cast to guide a new generation of fans. The first, iconic, and cherished films will continue to be the foundation of the brand and will be accessible everywhere, while each season will stay true to the source novels and introduce Harry Potter and these amazing adventures to new audiences across the world.
The show's executive producers include Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts, and Warner Bros. TV and Bronte Film and TV are in charge of its creation. David Heyman produced all eight of the feature films, and he is in talks to executive produce. A writer and showrunner are still being sought.
Casey Bloys, chairperson and CEO of HBO and Max Content, said in a statement that they are thrilled to give people the chance to explore Hogwarts in a completely new manner. It is obvious that there is such an ongoing passion and hunger for the Wizarding World since Harry Potter has become a cultural phenomenon. This new Max Original series, produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, will delve deeply into each of the classic books that readers have cherished for so long.
Rowling said that she values Max's commitment to maintaining the integrity of her books, and she is excited to be a part of this new adaptation, which will enable a level of depth and detail only possible with a long-form television series.
Beginning in early 2021, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that many concepts for a live-action Harry Potter TV series were in the early stages of development. Since then, meetings with writers have been taking place.
Bloys stated after the Max presentation that the Harry Potter TV series' budget will be comparable to that of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, the latter of which had a $125 million first season. That scale or a higher one will be used. When questioned about the project's probable cost, Bloys responded that whatever it takes to develop a decent show
According to WBD officials, the new series won't prevent them from working on more Harry Potter-related projects. Zaslav declared that they are free to do anything they want. Some things they need to work out with Rowling; some things they can accomplish on their own. It is Harry Potter on Max, in full deployment. There are still additional properties they can develop.
Bloys was questioned particularly about Rowling's contentious comments on transgender people but chose to focus on the fact that her Harry Potter novels are inclusive rather than respond. Because she is an executive producer, her knowledge will be valuable. Bloys, who is homosexual, said that they have been in the Harry Potter industry for 20 years; this isn't a fresh decision, even though the TV series is brand new and thrilling. They feel at ease operating in the Harry Potter industry. Rowling is a frequent internet chatter, and they are not going to delve into that because it is complex and subtle. Their focus is on what is on the screen, and the Harry Potter tale is tremendously affirming and wonderful about love and inclusion.
Following the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, there has been an increase in interest in bringing Harry Potter to television. Zaslav, who is in charge of the united business, has frequently stated a desire to expand the successful Boy Wizard franchise.
