The excitement to go back to Hogwarts has taken over us as we’ve been reading one update after another about the latest Harry Potter TV series that is in the making at Max (formerly called HBO Max). The show, which is being adapted from J.K. Rowling’s works, has been in the headlines for the past couple of days ever since showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and executive producer Mark Mylod (The Last of Us), along with Casey Bloys, appeared at the Max Showcase, where they revealed a lot about the Harry Potter TV series. Turns out, the show is making headlines today as well because the latest update talks about who plays Hagrid in the series, and the actor will blow your mind since he is also a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point.
While Mark Mylod has already confirmed that the casting for the show will be canonical and will align with the exact ages of the characters in the books, the new update from Comic Book Movie revealing who will play Hagrid is still shocking. Reportedly, Ted Lasso and Thor: Love and Thunder actor Brett Goldstein is in line to play Hagrid. Yes, you read that right. Brett is reportedly in contention, and the buzz is that he might soon be confirmed for the role.
Talking about the casting, Mark Mylod had said, "Nobody can replace Alan Rickman, but we can find the next Alan Rickman." (Alan Rickman passed away in 2016.) The buzz is also that Paapa Essiedu is in the running to play a young Snape in the Harry Potter TV series. Gardiner further teased that fans should expect to see areas of Hogwarts that haven’t been explored yet.
The Harry Potter TV series is being executive-produced by J.K. Rowling via Brontë Film, in collaboration with HBO and Warner Bros. The show will have Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod as the director and executive producer.
The official synopsis for the series states: "The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have cherished for over twenty-five years."
Each season will bring Harry Potter and his incredible adventures to new audiences worldwide, while the original, classic, and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally. The makers are planning eight seasons for the show, with two filmed in close schedules to avoid the same aging challenges faced by James Cameron during Avatar 2 and 3.
