Director Ram Arun Castro's maiden venture, Harkara, which hit screens on August 26, is now gearing up for its OTT release. The film will have its digital premiere on October 1 on Aha Tamil.
All about Harkara
The film traces the history of India's postal service and the first postman. Historian and author Steve Borgia, had stated ahead of the release, "The next generation has no idea who a postman is. Postmen were called Harkara or Thabaalkaaran in those days. When the British came to India, their very first employee was a postman, who would put their lives at risk to deliver messages."
He added that postmen donned multiple hats. "They would even read out the letters, supply medicines and take patients to hospitals, and even get involved in matchmaking. They were the nucleus of society."
An intriguing trailer
The film is set in a remote village in the backdrop of a hill in Theni where a new postman arrives. One day, while delivering a letter atop a mountain top, he listens to the story of Harkara, India's first ever postman, who lived 150 years ago. He was the heart and soul of the village and also fought against the British. Kaali Venkat plays a postman of the contemporary times, Ram Arun Castro plays the Harkara during the pre-independence era.
