Leo star Thalapathy Vijay is ringing in his 49th birthday today and wishes are pouring in from across the quarters. In the meantime, OTTPlay has compiled a list of films starring Vijay that you cannot afford to miss on Sun NXT.
Friends
A remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, marked director Siddique's debut in Tamil. Vijay shared screen space with Suriya for the second time after Nerukku Ner. The film was a laugh riot, courtesy Contractor Nesamani, aka Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu.
Ghilli
The film, helmed by Dharani had Vijay and Trisha as the lead and emerged as one of the biggest hits in their respective careers. Ghilli marked the maiden collaboration between Vijay and Trisha, who went on to become a successful onscreen pair.
Jilla
Jilla, directed by RT Neason, marked Vijay's maiden collaboration with Mohanlal and revolves around the conflict between the leader of crime mafia and his adopted son, who goes on to become a police officer.
Love Today
Debutant director Balasekaran's romantic drama starred Vijay, Suvalakshmi and Manthra and was a runaway hit. The film's success drove many remakes in other industries.
Kaavalan
This romantic comedy helmed by Siddique was a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, and brought together Vijay and Asin on screen again. The film marked Asin's last project in Tamil. Vadivelu as Ammavasai was yet another highlight of the film.
Kannukkul Nilavu
This romantic thriller marked the comeback of the hit combo from Kaadhalukku Mariyadhai, Vijay and Shalini. Vijay plays a youngster who has delusions due to a head injury. This was the actor's 25th film and his first release of the new century. The songs by Ilaiyaraaja were chartbusters.
Ninaithen Vandhai
This romantic drama by K Selva Bharathy, had Vijay, Devayani and Rambha in the lead, and was a remake of the Telugu film Pelli Sandadi. Devayani and Rambha play sisters in the film, who fall in love with the same man.
Pokkiri
The action drama was a remake of Mahesh Babu's Telugu film Pokiri. The film marks the maiden collaboration of Vijay and Asin and was directed by Prabhu Deva. Vijay plays an undercover police officer. The music by Mani Sharma and the comedy portions by Vadivelu were major highlights in the film.
Theri
The action thriller, directed by Atlee, revolves around a police officer, who is on a mission to protect his daughter. The film starred Vijay and Samantha in the lead and was a massive hit at the box office.
Thirupaachi
Perarasu's Thirupaachi revolved around the bond between brother and sister (played by Vijay and Mallika). Vijay played the brother who would go any length for the safety of his sister, which includes wiping a city clean of gangsters. Trisha essays the role of Vijay's love interest and the songs were chartbusters.
