Happy birthday, Prithviraj Sukumaran! Salaar team unveils new poster of his character Vardharaja Mannar

As announced earlier, Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran will be seen as antagonist Vardharaja Mannar in the Prabhas-starrer Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. Today (October 16) on the occasion of Prithviraj’s birthday, the makers revealed a new poster of the upcoming action thriller. Previously, when director Prashanth Neel introduced the character poster of Vardharaja, it generated excitement among fans as they got to witness the actor in an entirely new avatar, quite unlike the roles he has done before. Additionally, the film also features Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy and Ramachandra Raju in pivotal roles.

Salaar’s storyline and lead characters

Salaar’s storyline revolves around the characters played by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, who are part of criminal gangs. Prithviraj reportedly said in an interview that both the characters have equal powers and screen space. The antagonist is as significant as the protagonist. Hence, one cannot call the hero more powerful than the villain and vice versa, the actor revealed. 

Is Pritiviraj playing the antagonist?

Despite being introduced as a villain in the teaser, Prithviraj, in an earlier interview, also revealed that Salaar doesn’t present Prabhas as the hero and himself as the villain in a conventional way like seen before. 

His remarks suggest that his character, Vardharaja, is likely to have an anti-hero arc with an intriguing backstory, which is going to be a crucial aspect for its storyline. Prithviraj had expressed his desire to work with the KGF fame director believing that the film will deliver an exceptional cinematic experience to the audience.

Salaar’s release date

Salaar is slated to release on December 22, 2024. The action film will be competing with the Rajkumar Hirani-directed comedy drama Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan.
