A few months ago, there has been speculation doing the rounds that GV Prakash's Aynagaran will have a direct release on SonyLIV. However, there wasn't any official update from neither the digital platform nor the film's makers. Now, the movie is set for a theatrical release. According to a source, the Ravi Arasu-directorial will release on January 26.

Vishal's Veerame Vaagai Soodum was the first Tamil project which announced theatrical release on the same date. Ayngaran, which has music composed by GV himself, was announced in 2016, and the film went on floors in 2017.

Earlier, it was expected that the movie, produced by B Ganesh of Common Man Pictures, would release in 2019 when Ravinder Chandrasekhar of Libra Productions came on board as the distributor. Mahima Nambiar essays the female lead in the film, which features Kaali Venkat, Arul Dass, Aadukalam Narein and Hareesh Peradi enacting pivotal roles.

The project, which has Saravanan Abimanyu as its cinematographer and Raja Mohammad as its editor, features GV Prakash in the role of a mechanical engineering graduate in it. Though the director had considered a few other heroes initially, he finally decided to cast GV to play the lead role.

In an earlier interview, Ravi said that he made a few changes to the script after GV was brought on board as the film's lead. According to the former, the protagonist of Ayngaran is someone who has the capability of pulling off the works of five people effortlessly.

The actor-composer had two theatrical releases this month, Vasanthabalan's Jail and Sathish Selvakumar's Bachelor. His movie Vanakkam Da Mappilei, which had director M Rajesh at the helm, had a direct release on Sun NXT earlier this year.
