Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph’s Guruvayur Ambalanadiyil is finally underway. The movie’s switch-on function was held in Guruvayur temple on Friday morning.
The film, which also has Nikhila Vimal, Anaswara Rajan and Yogi Babu as part of the cast, is co-produced by Prithviraj Productions and is scripted by Kunjiramayanam writer Deepu Pradeep. The latter had also scripted a comedy web series for Disney+ Hotstar that also had Nikhila Vimal and Sunny Wayne in the lead.

Guruvayur Ambalanadayil marks director Vipin Das’ fourth directorial after Gokul Suresh’s Mudhugauv, Saiju Kurup’s Anthakshari and Basil Joseph, Darshana Rajendran’s superhit Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey last year.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Vipin said, ““It’s a full-length comedy. It’s about a wedding in Guruvayur and the various incidents that ensue. The film will have the flavour of Nandanam and Nakhakshathangal in terms of how we will portray the temple and the area. The audience will get to experience and enjoy the same feeling of harmony when you are in front of Guruvayur temple.”
Prithviraj is rumoured to be playing a role with negative shades in the movie, which has Ankit Menon as its composer and John Kutty as its editor. The actor had recently wrapped up shooting for his Bollywood venture Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan, which has him essaying the role of an antagonist with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff playing the leads.
The Malayalam superstar, who has also shot for Jayan Nambiar’s Vilayath Buddha earlier this year, is part of Bollywood filmmaker Kayoze Irani’s Sarzameen and KGF director Prashanth Neel’s Salaar. Prithviraj’s next release is expected to be Vilayath Buddha, with Blessy’s Aadujeevitham following it in October 2023.
On the latter, its filmmaker Blessy recently told us that the movie is currently aiming at a world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival in August. Prithviraj is also expected to begin work on his directorial Empuraan, which has Mohanlal in the lead, the same month.
