Malayalam latest film, Guruvayoorambala Nadayil, made its way to the digital space from yesterday (June 27). The family entertainer, directed by Vipin Das, is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and Manorama Max (for those residing outside India). With Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph in the lead roles, the film has so far brought in over Rs 90 crore at the global box office thanks to enthusiastic reviews from audiences.

Netizens hail Prithviraj’s hilarious performance

This year, Prithviraj Sukumaran—who has performed a wide range of roles in the past—stunning viewers with his script selection variation. Prithviraj returned with Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, a lighthearted entertainer, following his lead role in the survival drama, Aadujeevitham. This is also the reason the movie was made with the intention of having a highly anticipated 2024 Malayalam release.

While many commended the actor for his comedic timing, others also noted that at certain points in the film, he gave a mass appeal to the movie. “One of the most organic performances by Prithvi, and this casting became the core strength of the movie,” a user wrote.

Despite the fact that Prithviraj is frequently criticised of lacking the ability to handle humour, online viewers assert that this movie proves the exact opposite.

After seeing the film in theatres, critics praised the comedy elements as well as the performances of the main actors. Many have observed that the "bromance" between Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph in the movie amplifies its comedic aspects.

The family entertainer, which was Prithviraj Sukumaran's first project with Basil Joseph and director Vipin Das, is centred around a wedding. Vinu Ramachandran, an expat worker, is finding it difficult to move on from his previous girlfriend, who dumped him and got married to someone else. But through an arranged match, he soon becomes engaged to Anjali and forges a close brotherly relationship with the irritable elder brother of his financier, Anandan. But when Vinu goes back to his hometown for the wedding, things become hysterical.
