On Teachers’ Day, the team of actor Sharan’s next, Guru Shishyaru, revealed its trailer and, along with it, the film’s theatrical release date. The Jadeesha K Hampi directorial, which has been jointly produced by Sharan and filmmaker Tharun Sudhir, will be in theatres on September 23. Since the film’s launch, the team has only said that Guru Shishyaru would be a sports drama set in 1995, about a PT teacher and a motley bunch of students, whom he trains in Kho-Kho. The young actors included a bunch of star kids, including Sharan’s son Hruday, and that was about all we knew so far.
The trailer, which came out a little while ago, provides a clearer picture of what to expect. Sharan, as it turns out, is a physical education teacher, who sets out to get an experience certificate by working at a government school, but his students turn out be a handful. What follows is a tug-of-war between the master and the students. But the bigger challenge arises when the rightful owner of the land that the school is built on stakes claim to his property. Sharan is seen as the designated saviour to save the school and its stakeholders, but can he live up to these expectations?
Guru Shishyaru’s primary cast includes names like Suresh Heblikar, Dattanna, Nishvika Naidu and Apurva Kasarahalli. As for the youngsters onboard, the film will introduce Ekanth (son of Nenapirali Prem), Rakshak (late comedian Bullet Prakash’s son), Manikanta Nayak (son of MLA Raju Gowda), Suriya (Ravi Shankar Gowda’s son), and Naveen Krishna’s son Harshit. The star kids were also put through the audition process and were then sent to train in kho-kho for about a year at the federation in Bengaluru, before the team went on floors. The trailer that came out today has some scintillating visuals of the sport, so, it looks like the training was well worth it.
