The Malayalam film Manjummel Boys has taken the box office by storm, as the film has been witnessing a massive welcome across states. After the film became a huge commercial and critical success in Kerala, the makers have planned to release the film in other states as well.

Besides the fine writing and performances of the cast, one of the major points that made the film a success was its clever use of the iconic Tamil song from Gunaa, Kanmani Anboda. The film uses the song from the Kamal Haasan-starrer in a crucial moment during the climax, which has made the film forge an emotional connection in Tamil Nadu. Recently, director-actor Santhana Bharathi, who helmed Gunaa, also applauded Manjummel Boys and appreciated the team for the song usage.

What did Santhana Bharathi say?

Manjummel Boys is directed by Chidambaram, an ardent fan of Kamal Haasan. As a tribute, the director used the Kanmani Anboda song from Gunna in his film, which has been winning the hearts of the audience.

Recently, Santhana Bharathi and Kamal also met the team and appreciated their work. Speaking in an interview with Kumudam, the director said, “They have done a wonderful job with the film. They began with the animated version of the song and then followed it up with the story of the boys club, who take a trip to Kodaikanal. As I started watching it, the film took a serious turn, and I must say that they have done a wonderful job with it. In fact, after Gunaa's shooting, they banned the public from going there. Even the sets they created have been very realistic.”

He added, “They have wonderfully used the song. The whole theatre erupted and celebrated the moment. I became very emotional once they played the song. They have aptly used the song in perfect timing. The way they ended the climax of the film by using it and turning it into a friendship song was commendable.”
