Posters for the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon depict the Blacks and Greens getting ready to fight. Season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel series will begin in full swing in 2024, after its 2022 HBO premiere. The story follows House Targaryen as it descends into decline due to the catastrophic Dance of the Dragons, a succession battle. Ewan Mitchell, Fabien Frankel, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Tom Glynn-Carney are all part of the ensemble cast of House of the Dragon.

New character posters revealed

The official social media pages of House of the Dragon posted new character posters for season 2, depicting the Greens and Blacks getting ready for war, ahead of the June release date of the show.

Aegon II Targaryen, Ser Criston Cole, Aemond Targaryen, and Alicent Hightower were part of Team Green on the season 2 posters. Team Black was on the other side. Rhaenyra, Daemon, Rhaenys, and Corlys Velaryon are the members of the Targaryen family who are known as the Blacks. Messages like "Tomorrow. All Must Choose" appear on the posters. The post confirms the release of a new season 2 trailer on March 21.

Anticipation for the official trailer

Following the December 2023 release of a brief teaser trailer, the official trailer for season 2 should be 2-3 minutes in length and give a better sense of the magnitude and breadth of the upcoming destruction. Even though the character posters suggest a June start for season 2, the next trailer should provide a more precise release date.

Rhaenyra's vengeful rage following the unintentional death of her son Lucerys in the House of the Dragon season 1 finale is what starts the Targaryen civil war in season 2. The initial teaser hinted that a fight between dragons would be the most brutal and god-hating conflict imaginable. The second House of the Dragon season 2 trailer should further develop these themes, hinting at the impending blood and fire.

New characters and their dragons

Hugh and Ulf, namely Hugh the Hammer and Ulf White from George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, are likely among the many announced characters who may be riding dragons throughout the war. Alynn's brother Addam may or may not be astride a dragon in the upcoming conflict. Two of the knighted men are Ser Alfred, a senior Black knight at Dragonstone, and Ser Rickard, a Green knight at King's Landing.

At the end of the first season of House of the Dragon, Vhagar, the dragon of Aemond Targaryen, devoured Lucerys Velaryon, the son of Rhaenyra Targaryen. This event seems to spur the queen to war, involving all the newly revealed individuals in the blood-soaked fight that is about to ensue. Their individual destinies are yet unknown, but once the civil war erupts, they will undoubtedly make significant contributions.

The intensifying struggle

The struggle between Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower will only intensify further as the future of the House of the Dragon becomes increasingly tense. How many of the new characters will survive their early days to become notable long-term players in the fight is an open question. However, the return of season 2 will spin a complex narrative web from their arrival.

House of the Dragon Season 2 will stream on JioCinema.
