Ricky Kej has made history by winning his third Grammy Award at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles, USA, earlier today. The musician won for Best New Age Album for his globally-acclaimed album, Divine Tides on which he collaborated with Stewart Copeland. With his latest win, Ricky has become the only Indian alive to win three Grammy Awards. Divine Tides has already won awards at several festivals across the world, including a Grammy Award in 2022.
Speaking just after accepting his award in Los Angeles, Ricky said, "It feels absolutely surreal to win the biggest prize in music again... for the third time! I am extremely grateful to have had another opportunity to make my country proud by achieving this on the biggest music platform in the world. I'd like to thank the Recording Academy for this honour, my collaborators Stewart Copeland, Herbert Waltl, and Eric Schilling, and everyone else who made this album possible."
Ricky added, "Although my music is global, it has always has strong Indian roots, and I am extremely proud that Indian music has been recognised for this prestigious award. This award solidifies my belief that I should continue making music that can inspire positive social impact."
Divine Tides features artistes from around the world and is a tribute to 'vasudeva kutumbakam' (the world is one family). The album consists of nine songs and eight music videos filmed across the world.
Ricky has earlier won Grammys in 2022 and 2015 for Best New Age Album for Divine Tides and Winds of Samsara, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ricky has begun work on his Hollywood debut, MR-9, helmed by American-Bangladeshi writer-director Asif Akbar. It stars Frank Grillo of Captain America, Avengers and Zero Dark Thirty fame, and Michael Jai White of Spawn, Mortal Kombat and Tyson fame. The screenplay of MR-9 has been adapted by writer Qazi Anwar Hussain’s novel, Masud Rana: Dhonghsho Pahar.
