Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming black comedy crime caper Good Luck Jerry is the latest movie to join the long list of Bollywood remakes. The actor has now talked about how her character is different from Nayanthara’s character from the original movie Kolamaavu Kokila and how she has dealt with the comparisons to the South Indian star.
Talking to RJ Siddharth Kannan as reported by The Indian Express, Janhvi said she has been facing comparisons from the beginning of her career, including with her mother and late actor Sridevi. Pointing out that even her debut movie was a remake, the actor said that she is immune to comparisons.
“Our film is very different (from the original). The character of Jerry is not at all like Nayanthara’s character. Firstly, our film is set in north India. I play a Bihari girl in Punjab. So, her personality, the way she speaks, characterisation, everything is different,” Janhvi said, about what makes the Hindi remake different from the original.
Kolamaavu Kokila, popularly dubbed by fans as COCO, is a 2018 black comedy that marked the directorial debut of Nelson. Nayanthara takes the lead in the movie, which also features Yogi Babu, Saranya Ponvannan, R. S. Shivaji, Charles Vinoth, Hareesh Peradi and Jacqueline in important roles.
Good Luck Jerry, which is backed by Aanand L. Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions, is directed by Sidharth Sengupta. While Janhvi takes the lead in the movie, it also features Deepak Dobriyal, Mita Vashisht, Neeraj Sood and Sushant Singh in important roles.
The movie, which will follow a woman as she delves into the cocaine business, is set to start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on July 29.
