Good Grief is a modern-day commentary on love, life, loss, grief, and friendship. Marking the feature film directorial debut of Dan Levy, the show also features him as a writer, producer, and actor. The film will enjoy a limited theatrical release on December 29, 2023, before premiering on OTT next year.
The film will drop on Netflix on January 5, 2024, right after the thriller series Fool Me Once and The Brother’s Sun. Having dropped its trailer on December 6, 2023, Good Grief featured a small but strong cast, comprising the likes of Himesh Patel, Ruth Negga, and Luke Evans. The film also stars Celia Imrie, David Bradley, Arnaud Valois, and Jamael Westman.
In an interview with Netflix, Dan Levy revealed that the film was a cautionary tale about loss and friendship and all the mess it brings along when one has evaded the truth for most of their life. He further shared, “It’s funny, it’s bittersweet, it’s a project that’s helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well.”
The trailer offers a brief outline of the film’s plot which basically follows the story of Marc, who is happily overshadowed by her charismatic, outgoing husband Oliver. But tragedy strikes when he unexpectedly dies, and easygoing Marc’s life falls apart. Thankfully he has best friends Sophie and Thomas to pick him up and cheer him on.

Thanks to their tireless efforts, Marc somewhat resembles a human from an erstwhile zombie. However, he wishes to thank his besties by taking them to Paris for a weekend, also commemorating Oliver’s death anniversary.
However, several messes and revelations await the trio as they test their bond, insecurities, and repressed truths that they must face in order to heal and move on with life. A beautiful tale of caution, friendship, loss, heartbreak, and love, Good Grief seems to be a must watch for all.
