All We Imagine As Light by Payal Kapadia is still getting rave reviews around the world. The film has advanced to the longlist for three major BAFTA categories, adding to its nominations at the Golden Globes. The British Academy revealed the results of the first round of voting in all 25 categories for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards on Friday. The British Academy Film Awards have nominated All We Imagine As Light for Best Director, Original Screenplay, and Best Foreign Language Film, making it one of three contenders.
Black Dog (Gou Zhen), The Count of Monte Cristo, Emilia Pérez, Flow, The Girl With the Needle, I'm Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui), Kneecap, La Chimaera, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig—these foreign language films are also in the competition.

The Best Director category features Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Edward Berger (Conclave), Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Alice Rohrwacher (La Chimera), Ellen Kuras (Lee), Nora Fingscheidt (The Outrun), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance). Payal is up against these notable directors.
The following works also make it to the Original Screenplay list: Anora, The Apprentice, The Brutalist, Challengers, Civil War, Heretic, Kneecap, A Real Pain, and The Substance.
Variety reports that Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard's Spanish-language musical thriller that Netflix acquired at Cannes, has a head start with nominations in 15 categories, including best picture, director, leading actress, and three for supporting actress lists. Edward Berger's mystery-thriller Conclave, set in the Vatican, has garnered fourteen nominations, with Ralph Fiennes securing three of them for best actor, best picture, and director.
All We Imagine As Light tells the touching tale of Prabha and Anu, two Malayali nurses. Anu struggles to find a private place for sexual relations with her boyfriend, while an unexpected present from her estranged husband upends Prabha's life. Payal Kapadia directs the tribute to Mumbai, which stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon.
Starting on January 3, the Cannes Film Festival's Grand Prix winner is available to watch on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
