Just how far would someone go to satiate their greed? The upcoming thriller survival film, Gold, tries to answer this very question. The first trailer for the Zac Efron led film was unveiled recently.
The trailer opens with a scene from the dry arid deserts of Australia. Efron plays a man who makes his way to a particularly inhospitable part of the landscape with a mysterious purpose in mind, accompanied by another man. Once they reach their destination, the duo strike gold, quite literally, when they unearth a large gold nugget buried in the sand.
The two decide to split ways, with one going in search of an excavator to dig up the treasure and the other keeping watch over it in the meantime. But as time passes, Efron starts to buckle under the pressure of his grueling wait. He not only finds himself having to fend himself against the harshness of the elements, but also realizes that the inhospitable environment also hosts some unwanted people, as greedy as himself. As his wait gets longer, the man starts to wonder if his partner has purposefully left him behind.
The upcoming film is written and directed by Anthony Hayes, who also stars in the film alongside Efron. Polly Smyth has also co-written the film’s script with Hayes. Gold also features Susie Porter in a pivotal role.
Gold is slated for a theatrical release on January 13, 2022.
