Director Alphonse Puthren’s much-awaited Gold hit theatres last week with a lot of hype going for it – from Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara’s casting to the filmmaker’s comeback directorial after Premam. However, the movie failed to live up to the expectations and the filmmaker has faced flak for it.
The film, which revolves around a shipment of smuggled gold that accidently finds it way to the house of its protagonist and the latter’s efforts to make the most of the ‘golden’ opportunity, has a bevy of actors including its lead actors as well as supporting acts from Baburaj, Roshan Mathew, Sharafudheen, Vinay Forrt, Deepti Sati and Krishna Sankar. However, none of it helped Gold win the audience as much as Premam did.
Now, reacting to the negative reviews for the film, Alphonse took to his social media page and expressed his gratitude to those writing this feedback. “I have been hearing a lot of jealousy, contempt and disdain about my film. There’s a certain joy you get while hearing all this,” he wrote.
The actor also compared the film to tea, saying that everyone can quickly say that tea is bad. But if you go to the specifics and explain better then it would help those who are making it get better at it the next time, he said.
The filmmaker also said that the scorn directed at his movie might boost the egos of those writing the reviews. “I didn’t name my film Neram 2 or Premam 2. It’s called Gold,” he said, on the comparisons of the film with his previous superhit. “All of us who made this movie didn’t do it to ridicule, harm you or even waste your precious time. So, please don’t doubt our intentions.”
He signed off saying that while people can say he could have made Gold in a particular way and it would have been better, it’s the first time that he is making this film and if anyone else has experience in doing this movie earlier, then their opinions are right.
