Glen Powell was motivated to do Top Gun: Maverick and Devotion by Tom Cruise - Did you know?

If there is one actor who sits at the top of the busiest list in Hollywood, it has to be Glen Powell. The actor is everywhere on the big screen and streaming too. He has had multiple releases, and we are just in July. Most recently, he graced the cinema halls with his movie Twisters. The actor, however, is also making all the buzz on streaming with Hitman and Anyone But You. Looks like Glen is not stopping here and is on a streak for domination because he is all set to have another movie on streaming. As we reported recently, Glen will have yet another movie re-release on streaming in India, and that is none other than Devotion. However, do you know he was motivated by Tom Cruise to do the film?

Tom Cruise Convinced Glen Powell

In case you can't recall, Glen Powell was also in Top Gun: Maverick, which turned out to be the breakout role that made him a household name. But when Maverick was offered to him, this was the same time he was already doing Devotion. This left the actor in a dilemma about whether or not to accept the offer. So when he spoke to Tom Cruise about the same, the superstar had a lovely suggestion. Read on to know everything you should about the same.

Technically, both Top Gun: Maverick and Devotion are set in the world of aviation. When Glen Powell told Tom Cruise about this, as per The Hollywood Reporter, the action star told him that there is always room for two. “I said, ‘Hey, Tom, I already have a naval aviation movie that’s really close to my heart.’ And Tom said, ‘There’s room for two. You can do Top Gun, you can do Devotion. You don’t have to choose.’ The fact that Tom gave me the liberty to make both, Black Label and Sony gave me the liberty to make both — I feel like these are two movies that could not be more different from each other but really complement just the love of aviation and the legacy of our men and women in uniform,” Powell said.

“I was afraid that Top Gun was going to derail this when he was offered that role,” the author of Devotion, Makos, said of his reservations at the time. “I thought, ‘Jeez, he’s gonna go for that. He’s gonna leave us behind.’ Because who wouldn’t want to act alongside Tom Cruise?”
