Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's debut production, Girls Will Be Girls, is set to stream on Prime Video.

Shuchi Talati wrote and directed the coming-of-age film Girls Will Be Girls, which has won several awards at film festivals and will now premiere on Prime Video. Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha established their production label, Pushing Buttons Studios, with this Indo-French co-production.
This film, which had its world premiere at Sundance 2024 and won two prizes, including the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic Category, follows 18-year-old Mira as she deals with coming-of-age issues as her mother deals with her own unfinished business.
Girls Will Be Girls explores the intricacies of puberty and societal expectations from a female perspective through a narrative that is both moving and compelling. Interwoven with the unfulfilled coming-of-age experiences of Mira's mother are the struggles of 18-year-old Mira as she navigates her defiant awakening and emotional upheaval. Girls Will Be Girls' looks like it's going to be a stunning film based on the trailer, and viewers will be captivated from the very beginning as they are transported on an exhilarating adventure via Mira's eyes. Talati, who is directing and writing the screenplay for the first time, casts a stellar ensemble that includes Kani Kusruti, Kesav Binoy Kiron, and newcomers Preeti Panigrahi. Fazal served as the executive producer, while Chadha and Claire Chassagne produced the film, a collaboration between Crawling Angel Films, Dolce Vita Films, and Pushing Buttons Studios.
Following its premiere at Sundance, the film went on to play at Goteborg, El Gouna, Karlovy Vary, and the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival, among others. In addition to winning Best Film at the Jakarta International Festival and the Biarritz Film Festival, as well as the Transilvania Trophy at the Transilvania International Film Festival, it took home the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. At its MAMI Mumbai Film Festival debut in India, the film won three prizes.
Manish Menghani, the director of content licensing at Prime Video India, introduced a coming-of-age film that explores the unique struggles, discoveries, and complexities faced by young adults, positioning the acquisition as part of the platform's strategy to diversify its content offerings. While Chadha praised the film for delving into intergenerational conflicts and the struggle for independence, Fazal emphasized the project's importance as the inaugural endeavor of their production firm.
