It wouldn't be a stretch to call 'Ghost' MG Srinivas' most ambitious film to date. The filmmaker began his journey about a decade-and-a-half ago but found success with the first instalment of the Birbal trilogy, following a couple of interesting but not-so-successful outings. The Birbal film, in which he also starred in the lead role, was both a critical and commercial success at the time of its release but more importantly, its cult grew over time and simultaneously, the film found buyers in other languages as well.
MG Srinivas, or Srini, would follow the first part of the Birbal trilogy, Case 1: Finding Vajramuni, with Old Monk, a rom-com that stars himself and Aditi Prabhudeva. However, he sprung a pleasant surprise on everyone when he announced that his next directorial would be with Shiva Rajkumar himself and the subject he interestingly chose was that of a high-stakes heist thriller. There would be loads of action, thrills and mass moments in the film, along with an ensemble cast including Jayaram, Anupam Kher, Archana Jois and others. And more importantly, Ghost has a very defined connection with the Birbal universe which, Srini says, will be revealed in the full-length film.
So, in that case, could we expect Ghost to have the same kind of plot twists and turns that Birbal part one did? The same question was put forth to MG Srinivas by a social media user very recently and though he did not go into specifics, he still had no qualms in saying, "Ghost will be 10 times that of Birbal". In short, for those seeking the thrills and twists, it would seem Srini has put together another intriguing puzzle in the form of Ghost.
The filmmaker has also revealed in his recent interviews that the germ of the idea of Ghost was found in a real-life incident that occurred in Chennai not very long ago. Srini and his writers would, of course, extrapolate that idea and today, the team is looking at not just any stand-alone film but an entire franchise. Ghost will also be a non-linear narrative that unfolds over a 48-hour window.
