There is a lot of excitement surrounding director MG Srinivas’ next, Ghost, which has Century Star Shivarajkumar in the lead. An action heist thriller, with a narrative spanning a 48-hour time frame, much of which is set in a prison, the film first grabbed eyeballs when the filmmaker spoke about using visual effects to de-age Shivarajkumar for certain portions of the film. His casting choices of Malayalam and Tamil actor Jayaram and Bollywood actor Anupam Kher were also widely discussed as positive moves, given that the film would be a pan-India release. Over time, Srinivas also revealed that Ghost would be the film that sets his Srinivas Cinematic Universe in motion, as he merges this franchise with his earlier Birbal.
Then came the ultimate promotional weapon, the Big Daddy teaser that came out on Shivarajkumar’s birthday in July this year. The timing of the teaser was perfect, as it was the time when the Hattrick Hero’s Jailer cameo was in the news and shortly after audiences across states saw the star-power he brought to the table as Narasimha. Shivarajkumar looking at the machete wielded by one of the villains, went viral on social media as Kannada audiences explained the actor’s dynamic with this particular weapon. All of this, of course, gave Big Daddy an even bigger boost, as the actor’s new crop of fans from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra/Telangana checked out what he’s got up his sleeve next.
The film, Ghost, is set to release in theatres on October 19 and with less than a month to go, the team has just given audiences the first song, so to say. Called OGM – Original Gangster Music – it is an extended version of the Big Daddy background score, with vocals in English, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam, which negated the need for multiple versions. The song, of course, has caught on with audiences like wildfire. Interestingly, many have pointed out that the Malayalam bits in the song, sung by Jithin Raaj are the best.
Ghost, produced by Sandesh Productions is one of many films releasing this Dasara. In Kannada, it’s got Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B for company, while Vijay’s Leo, Ravi Teja’s Tiger Nageshwara Rao and Tiger Shroff’s Ganpath are among the major releases in other languages, as of now.
