Actor-filmmaker MG Srinivas has been tight-lipped about why he needed to present the leading man of his next directorial Ghost, Shivarajkumar, in a younger avatar. He made sure that he got a great visual effects team to work on this portion and the end product, some of which Srinivas showed audiences in the trailer of the film that he released a couple of days ago has been nothing short of fantastic. The first impression of the digital de-aging of Shivarajkumar was one of nostalgia for audiences, with most of them declaring in unison that it was reminiscent of how the actor was in films like Inspector Vikram and Samyukta, among others. In fact, they were so impressed by the output that fans began calling for a sequel to Inspector Vikram using the same technology.
Once this wave of nostalgia came to rest, it then hit audiences that the look Shivarajkumar sports in the de-aged portion appears to be quite modern, thereby negating the theory that the technology was used for a flashback portion. In the trailer, Shivarajkumar sports three distinctive avatars, with the major portions unfolding in his current look. In the de-aged portion, not only is he seen sporting a be-spoke suit, but Anupam Kher, who is seated beside him has a smart phone in his hand. Also, in a poster that the team has released, Shivarajkumar’s de-aged avatar is seen speaking on a mobile phone.
This has audiences now wondering if Shivarajkumar has a double role in the film and if so, who he could be playing in the de-aged portion. Ghost, which is Srinivas’ first with Shivarajkumar, is a two-part venture, the first of which will be in theatres on October 19. The film has a massive buzz around it, given the success of Shivarajkumar’s Jailer cameo in other markets. In fact, Ghost’s Hindi trailer has recorded far more views than the Kannada original. Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studio is releasing the Hindi version.
