When Shivarajkumar set up Shri Mutthu Cine Services, a production house that would be headed by his younger daughter Niveditha, the plan was to create content for OTT platforms, which had just started taking wing in the country, including a few that catered to more vernacular content. They produced three web series in collaboration with Sakath Studio, one of which was the first to be entirely shot in Vietnam. One of the shows, Honeymoon, was picked up for release in a Telugu-dubbed version by aha! while the Kannada original did not come out until much later and was given to Voot Select. A second, By Mistake, also went to the same platform, while a third, Hate U Romeo, was given to a new streamer called Talkies App.
Speaking at the launch of the platform for Kannada and Tulu content, Shivarajkumar had said that he was interested in being a part of web content, but in the time since, there’s been no development on that front given his busy schedule, while Niveditha is currently focusing on making movies. In a recent interview for the promotion of his upcoming film Ghost the actor was asked if he was still game to be a part of an OTT-only project. Shivarajkumar not only responded in the affirmative, but also added that he is very keen to get an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello going, which he would want to be associated with as an actor as well.
Ghost, which hits theatres on October 19 for Dasara, is Shivarajkumar’s first collaboration with director MG Srini, but will not be their last. The duo has at least two more films planned to take off shortly, including Ghost 2 and one for the actor’s other home banner, Geetha Pictures. Ghost is releasing in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, with the Telugu version in theatres a week later on October 27. The film also stars Jayaram, Prashant Narayan, Anupam Kher and Archana Jois, among others.
