Ghantasala is the one of the most legendary singers that the Telugu film industry has produced. His legacy continues to be celebrated by music enthusiasts across all age groups. There’s now a biopic in the making to bring his life story on the screen. Titled Ghantasala The Great, the film is directed by Ch Rama Rao. Singer Krishna Chaitanya has been roped in to reprise the singer’s role in the biopic.
Mrudula has come on board to play Ghantasala’s wife Savithri. Phani, GV Bhaskar are jointly producing the film under Anyukth Ram Productions. The film has wrapped its shoot and the post-production formalities and is gearing up for a release in December this year. A new poster of the film was unveiled today by noted producer C Kalyan.
The director, in the past, has also compiled a book on Ghantasala titled Ghantasala Pathasala. “I consider it a privilege to have directed a story based on Ghantasala’s life. We’ve seen stories of personalities like Annamayya, Ramadasu in the past and I’m sure this is also a tale that audiences need to know. They will discover him in a new light after the film. SPB, when he was alive, believed Krishna Chaitanya was an apt choice to play Ghantasala,” the filmmaker said.
“I must thank my stars to play Ghantasala garu’s role on screen. People across the globe know him as a singer. The film will help viewers realise the lesser-known dimensions of the singer and understand the various challenges he faced in his life,” Krishna Chaitanya shared at the poster launch. Suman, Subbaraya Sarma, JK Bharavi and Ashok Kumar are also part of the film.
Venu Muralidhar cranked the camera for the biopic whose crew comprises editor Kranthi, art director Nani as well. Other guests at the poster launch event - producers C Kalyan, KL Damodar Prasad, Tummalapalli Rama Satyanarayana, Prasanna Kumar, director Karri Balaji wished the team ahead of the film’s release.
