Gehraiyaan: Climax of Deepika Padukone's film explained with possible theories

Shakun Batra's film Gehraiyaan , which stars Deepika Padukone , Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa, has become the talk of the internet since its release on Amazon Prime Video. The film is currently trending on social media platforms. The film has been receiving tremendous response from fans and critics alike, especially for Deepika Padukone's impeccable performance in it.

The film has also been receiving praises for its music and storytelling by Batra as it surprises the viewers with several twists and turns in the second half of the film. We have broken down the film's ending and predicted probable theories. Beware of spoilers ahead!

The climax of the film shows Karan's engagement, being attended by Alisha and Tia after two years since Tia and Alisha agree to forget about what happened and move on in their lives. That's when they bump into the elderly lady who immediately recognises Alisha from the yacht episode. Zain and Alisha had helped her and her husband. The old lady says, "Alisha, right? Hum pehle mil chuke hai" and the frame fades out. 

The film by Batra has an open ending, which can lead to several interpretations and theories. One of the possible theories could be that Alisha changes the subject when the old lady recognises her and tries to remind her about what happened on the yacht. Alisha refuses to recognise her and says she's probably confusing her with someone else. She blames it on her poor memory or old age. The other possible theory could be that the old lady reminds Alisha about the yacht episode and mentions her fiance. As Tia hears it over, she realises that Zain has indeed been cheating on her and is extremely hurt and upset. All the feelings that they had buried appears on the surface, leading to awkward moments. Alisha and Tia probably then work things out or never speak to each other again. 

If we go by the latter theory, it could also possibly lead to Batra using the scenario to tie loose ends and take the story ahead with a sequel. A sequel can give all answers!
