Director and actor Gautham Menon was last seen in Tamil film Viduthalai: Part 2 directed by Vetrimaaran, which spoke about caste and power atrocities unleashed on the oppressed. However, the filmmaker in a recent interview opined on caste-based films coming in the recent times and the need for it.

“I don't want to name the films, but division among people in terms of caste and the stories told about people, knowing that it is not present now and setting them in the 80s is not something I am inclined towards. It is getting a bit too much. I do not think those stories need to be told anymore. You cannot such stories in the present, which is why we still make it as 80s-set films. We cannot tell a story set in today's age because nobody wants it,” said Gautham Menon.
