Gaslight gets a release date: Vikrant Massey and Sara Ali Khan's thriller to directly premiere on OTT

After Atrangi Re, Sara Ali Khan's yet another film gets a direct-to-stream release. Yes, we are talking about Gaslight, which is a Pavan Kirpalani directorial and co-produced by Ramesh Tauran and Akshai Puri. The thriller flick unites Sara with Vikrant Massey for the first time, and the film also features Chitrangda Singh in a pivotal role. Now, while talking to her grandmother, the veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, on Disney+ Hotstar, Sara said that Gaslight will debut on Disney+ Hotstar on March 31, 2023.

Talking about the same, a source had earlier told PeepingMoon that the plot of the psychological thriller Gaslight is so unique that it might not be appealing to theatergoers. The decision to release it digitally was made by the producers because they believe that this kind of movie has historically performed better on OTT than in traditional theatres. They also believe that doing so will protect their financial interests.

Earlier, when Vikrant talked to OTTplay in an exclusive interview, he couldn't say enough good things about Sara as they worked together for the first time. He had said, "It was fantastic working with Sara and Chitrangda. For the first time, Pavan Kirpalaani, the film's director, and I worked together. Working with Ramesh Taurani and Akshay Puri was also my first experience. I had a ball, especially with Sara, because she's such an incredible person and most of my work was with her. I had a great time working with them and am really looking forward to that film. It's a thriller again."

Sara's last two movies, Coolie No. 1 and Atrangi Re, went straight to Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar instead of the big screen. Her forthcoming film, Ae Watan Mere Watan, is also set to be a Prime Video release. On the other hand, Vikrant also had a series of OTT releases, including Haseen Dillruba on Netflix, 14 Phere, Forensic, and Love Hostel on ZEE5.
