It’s been a few years since Raj B Shetty rose to fame with his directorial debut, Ondu Motteya Kathe. Since then, he has been doing the odd film as an actor and took his sweet time to make his next as a director. Called Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, the film is Raj’s take on the Mangaluru underworld, in a tale inspired by a sequence in the Yakshagana play, Sri Devi Mahatme, which focuses on an ego clash between gods.
The film, which was ready before the pandemic and was scheduled to release earlier, now has a firmed-up date with audiences. Raj dropped the trailer of Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana today, which not only gave audiences a peek at the intense, action-packed tale he is bringing to screens, but also a countdown to the film’s theatrical release. Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, which is being presented by Rakshit Shetty, through his banner Paramvah Studios, will be in theatres on November 19.
Speaking to us about the film Raj said, “The protagonists of Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana allude to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, based on the Yakshagana Sri Devi Mahatme, in which a fight breaks out between gods, which fascinated me. This story follows the journey of two people in rowdyism, and the power play and dominance that comes with the territory. Rishab’s character Hari is inspired by Lord Vishnu, and is a calm and calculated person, who has a handle on every situation, while I play Shiva an impulsive guy, who doesn’t think twice before acting, often, not to great consequences. My role has been inspired by Lord Shiva. While this is the central thread of the story, Hulivesha (tiger dance) is also an important element of the film.”
The film, adds Raj, is set in Mangaluru solely because it is a region he knows well and is comfortable presenting to the world. Interestingly. Also starring Gopalkrishna Deshpande in a pivotal role, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana’s music has been scored by Midhun Mukundan.
