Samadarshi Dutta has recently donned the hat of director with the upcoming Bengali web series Gangulys Wed Guhas. The series will also see him star as one of the leads.

In a conversation with Telegraph India, the actor-turned-filmmaker says that it is easy to lose objectivity when one acts and directs. Calling the process ‘tricky’ and ‘messed up’, he said he had tried his utmost best to make sure he did both his roles as honestly as possible. He also credits his associate director for helping him through the snags he had faced.

He says it was an experience that he has never had before, being an actor for most of his career. The Bengali star also says how he had learned about things a director should not do from his past experiences on various sets. He places importance on resource management and a good script to make things easier for a director. From the lessons he learnt from his new role, he cites being tolerant and making smart choices as the principal ones, as directors would have to deal with a host of things at any given time.

Dutta also let in on how the late Rituparno Ghosh had inspired him to make a foray into the field. The pair have worked on the Rabindranath Tagore documentary Jeevan Smriti back in 2013. He calls his upcoming series as an ode to Ghosh, whose comments of how Dutta would make a good director had lit a spark in the latter.
