Sanjay Leela Bhansali's dream project starring Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi broke records on big screens and is now breaking trends on OTT. The film, which debuted on Netflix on April 26, is one of the top Non-English content on the platform.

Fans praised the picture for its compelling tale, Bhatt's outstanding performance, and the wonderful cinematography. The film continues to dominate the Netflix charts in many countries after dominating the box office and crossing the Rs.100 crore mark within days of its big release.

According to ProKerala.com, with 8.3 million viewing hours in its second week on Netflix, the film remained in the top three on the charts. Gangubai Kathiawadi had 22.1 million viewing hours in just 13 days.

Alia Bhatt had earlier shared on Instagram that her film was trending on number 1 on Netflix, stating that she is astonished and overwhelmed by the news. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film's director, also feels the same way.

Based on S Hussain Zaidi's novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai, the plot of the film follows Gangu (Alia), who was sold into a brothel in Mumbai's Kamathipura. She then goes on to rule the biggest red-light area of Mumbai.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed and wrote Gangubai Kathiawadi, which is produced by Bhansali Productions and Pen Studios. Apart from Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Jim Sarbh, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, and Seema Bhargava are among the many performers who appear in the film.

Meanwhile, Alia has a busy year ahead. She is gearing up for her big Hollywood project with Gal Gadot. She is flying to the UK to shoot the Netflix film. She also has Brahmastra, directed by Ayan Mukherjee, with her husband and actor, Ranbir Kapoor. She'll also co-star alongside Ranveer Singh in Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
