Hansal Mehta has revolutionized India's streaming space, and cinephiles eagerly anticipate his next project. With hits like Scam 1992 and Scoop, his storytelling has captivated audiences. While the excitement for these shows continues, Mehta has confirmed his reunion with SonyLIV for Gandhi, a series exploring the life of the Father of the Nation like never before. On his death anniversary today, Applause Entertainment, the production house backing the show, shared a glimpse featuring Pratik Gandhi.
Gandhi is adapted from historian Ramachandra Guha’s books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World, 1914-1948. The first of three seasons will capture Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s formative years as a law student in London and later as a civil rights activist in South Africa—where the seeds of India's independence movement were sown in his heart. The second and third seasons will cover the rest of his life.
On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi lost his life, and today, on his death anniversary, Applause Entertainment shared a still from Gandhi on their Instagram handle. The image features Pratik Gandhi as Mahatma Gandhi, standing before a village panchayat. Though no additional details have been revealed, the still looks visually compelling and has heightened anticipation for the series.
As excitement for the show builds, the team has now brought Oscar-winning music maestro A.R. Rahman on board to compose the musical score. His involvement takes the project to another level.
Speaking about this collaboration, Hansal Mehta told Variety, “Gandhi is a deeply human retelling of M.K. Gandhi’s life story, one that continues to inspire generations. Having A.R. Rahman join us on this journey is truly a dream come true. His music has the unique ability to elevate storytelling, and for a project of this scale and significance, we couldn’t think of anyone better to bring out the emotional and spiritual nuances of Gandhi’s life.”
Gandhi stars Pratik Gandhi, Bhamini Oza, Tom Felton, Steven Peace, and Luke Mably in lead roles and will stream on SonyLIV. No release date has been announced yet.
