The way Warner Bros. is dedicating all their energies to working on their successful IPs and bringing more of them with sequels, prequels, and spin-offs has left the fans excited. One of their most lucrative IPs that has worked for them and continues to do so, even with the prequel show that has worked for two seasons, is Game of Thrones. We have recently seen the second season of House of the Dragon, the prequel show set many years ago, and it is already up for a third season. Another, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, is in the making, and a teaser for the same has dropped. And while these two are out there, scribe George R. R. Martin confirmed there are five more.
And just when we thought there was too much Westeros on its way, the news today will shake you up because there is one more added to the list, as a new scoop says Warner Bros. is in the midst of shaping a Game of Thrones movie. Yes, you read that right. The studio is finally getting into creating movies based on their iconic shows after shunning the idea back when Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss wanted to make a three-movie finale for the show, and they had to make season 8 instead. Read on to know more about the same.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is right now discussing a Game of Thrones movie as we speak. The discussions are in the first stages of development, and that also means the plan may get canceled if things don't work out. However, there are no details on who is on board to shape it or what part of the Game of Thrones history the movie will tap into. There is no project that has yet dared to tap into the follow-up to the show, so chances are the movie might.
As per the latest update from X handle Elio & Linda, George R. R. Martin, who was at the Oxford's Writer House, has confirmed that there are many Game of Thrones spin-offs in the making, and he even gave it all a number. Martin has revealed that there are seven in the making at various stages of development at HBO, including three live-action shows and four animated projects. What is even more surprising is the fact that this count is excluding House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This means we are about to witness nine spin-offs to the Westeros tale in total.
However, we do not have any idea about all the seven shows in development but might be aware of four of them. We have heard rumors around Aegon the Conqueror, Ten Thousand Ships, The Golden Empire, and Sea Snake. The tweet read, "Per @GRRMspeaking remarks at this talk, there are currently 7 shows in various stages of development, 3 live-action, 4 animated. We knew of 2 (Aegon the Conqueror, Ten Thousand Ships) and 2 (The Golden Empire, Sea Snake), as I recall."
