Trade pundits were surprised when leading producer Dil Raju acquired the Telugu rights of the Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Animal for a huge price. He’s reaping the fruits of his timely decision now with the blockbuster opening for the family drama across Telugu states. The film has collected over Rs 15 crore gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on day one.
He expressed his happiness about the fantastic start for Animal in Telugu. “2023 has been a great year both as a producer and a distributor. We’ll also be distributing Hi Nanna next week. Animal has struck a chord with audiences and it precisely explains the blockbuster start. The collections for Saturday and Sunday too look promising; we’re hoping it will collect at least Rs 35 gross by this weekend,” Dil Raju said.
Animal’s success is an example of how cinema has gone global, he added. “Films of Prabhas, Jr NTR, Ram Charan resonated with crowds across the country and now, with Animal, we too are embracing all kinds of cinema. I want to produce films like Animal and shed the perception that I only make family entertainers.” On the whole, Dil Raju will have at least 7 releases across multiple banners in 2024.
While four films will be produced under Sri Venkateswara Creations, three will be made under Dil Raju Productions. The three films under the subsidiary banner will launch three new directors in Telugu cinema. One of them is titled Aakasam Dhaati Vasthava; the other films have Suhas and Ashish as the leads.
Sharing an update on the Ram Charan-Shankar biggie, he stated, “Game Changer is nearing completion; 80% of the shoot is over and I don’t want to pressurise a filmmaker like Shankar to wrap it up quickly. He is shooting the film as per schedule and we’ll announce the release date once we have an idea about the post-production formalities.”
