As many as 22 years ago, Anil Sharma had conceptualised and dreamt of making a film called ‘Gadar’. By his own admission, it was revealed that not many people believed in him and his vision to make the film. The filmmaker had also said that he was even given a choice to choose between the stellar actor Amrish Puri and a top-heroine (name not revealed) due to budget constraints. And since Anil Sharma wanted to cast the late Amrish Puri at any cost, he chose to go with the seasoned performer.

As for the film ‘Gadar’s sequel ‘Gadar 2’, which was released this year, it has proved to be one of the gigantic hit films in Bollywood ever. The film simply escalated everyone’s careers with its box office success. Major credit of the film’s success truly goes to the leading stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and also the film’s director Anil Sharma. Speaking of the film’s heroine, Anil Sharma made a startling revelation in a recent interview with Bollywood Thikaana. In the interview, Anil Sharma said that he had taken the audition of as many as ten newcomer girls for the part of the film’s leading lady. And these ten auditions were taken in a flat time span of mere two days! Anil added that, after having auditioned the ten newcomers, he then shortlisted Ameesha Patel.

Speaking about Ameesha Patel, the film maker revealed that he was initially extremely concerned over the fact that she would be able to pull it off (the role of the film’s leading lady), still, he decided to go with her. He also added that she was fair and hailed from a rich family, which was exactly how he wanted the film ‘Gadar’s leading lady to be. Anil Sharma then revealed that Ameesha Patel had issues with her diction, but that could be taken care of through dubbing.

He also added that, since Ameesha Patel had studied in Boston University and grew up in South Mumbai and used to travel by Mercedes, it was tough for her to understand the nuances of the 1947 era. He even termed Ameesha Patel as the most hard working and beautiful student who would rehearse every day for six months, five hours a day, thoroughly going through every single dialogue and every scene more than hundreds of times! The rest, as they say, is history!
