It's the clash of sequels this Friday, as Gadar 2 and OMG 2 are hitting the big screens on August 11, 2023. The Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer cross-border love story is returning after two decades, while the Akshay Kumar-starring film is coming back with a new story after a decade. Both films have fan bases owing to the incredible success of the first instalment. Thus, the screens and advance bookings are divided accordingly.
As per reports in Times Now, Gadar 2 has been successful in achieving a screen count of 3,500. If it weren't for the other businesses in the industry, the number may have been even higher. The reports suggest that the movie starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel has been able to secure a larger number of screenings all over India, and the total could end up being much greater.
Gadar 2 is expected to have the year's second-highest opening weekend, according to the reports. Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is expected to have the year's highest opening weekend. It's possible that Anil Sharma's movie would have a tremendous opening of between Rs. 20 and 25 crore. There have been some reports that say the movie might make a net of Rs. 25 crore on its first day of release; however, it's possible that it could be closer to Rs. 30 crore. The advance booking collection for Sunny Deol's film has been the biggest in the NCR, with the region contributing 23% to the share and having 450 showings in total. According to reports, the movie has brought in a total of Rs 96.28 lakh merely from advance bookings in NCR. In the meantime, the cities of Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad are among others that have made contributions as well.
22 years after the release of the first film in the series, Gadar 2 brings back Tara (Sunny Deol), Sakeena (Ameesha Patel), and Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma). In this sequel, which takes place against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, Tara Singh must, once more, battle every enemy in order to safeguard the honour of his country and his family.
Reportedly, OMG 2 is, however, falling behind Gadar 2. When compared to the Anil Sharma film, it not only had a lower number of screens but also had fewer ticket sales. Even though the official number has not been released just yet, it is speculated that the movie will be shown in over 2000 theatres in India and over 300 theatres in other countries. This is a fairly respectable number, although it is not even close to Gadar 2 in terms of size.
OMG 2 got off to a sluggish start and only managed to sell 7,700 tickets across all three national chains for its opening day. Tickets for the film are anticipated to sell between 50,000 and 60,000 prints by Thursday night. Reports from Sacnilk indicate that the movie has already sold 1.54 lakh tickets through advance booking for the first day of its release, and it is anticipated that the movie will do well at the box office. The advance bookings for the film have brought in a total of Rs. 3.96 crore so far.
Everything is well until one day, when Kanti Sharan Mudgal's (Pankaj Tripathi's) son Vivek is accused of immoral behaviour and kicked out of school as a consequence. Kanti intends to leave town until a spiritual intervention (Akshay Kumar) compels him to seek justice by bringing those responsible to court.
