The upcoming film will revolve around the story of Imperator Furiosa, an important character in the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road. The 2015 film starred Charlize Theron as Furiosa, and Tom Hardy as the titular character. Theron will reportedly not be a part of the film, but had expressed her excitement for the prequel. In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress had talked about how much she ‘loved’ the character and how thankful she was to have had a ‘small part in creating her’. “She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly,” she’d said.
George Miller, who directed the 2015 film, will return as director for the prequel. In an interview with Variety, the filmmaker had said that the prequel’s story will take place over the course of 15 years. The entire story of Mad Max: Fury Road, which had been nominated for ten Academy Awards and won six, had taken place over the period of three days. The upcoming prequel will see Anya Taylor-Joy essay the role of the titular character.
