Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been available for rent on Prime Video for the past three months. Now, in October, subscribers will have the opportunity to stream the film as it prepares for a full-fledged OTT release. Beginning October 23, 2024, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will stream on JioCinema. George Miller produces and directs the film, while Nico Lathouris penned the script. The fifth installment of Miller's Mad Max series serves as a prequel to 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road and a spinoff of the main plot, giving Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne's character Furiosa from Fury Road an origin story. The series' first film doesn't star Max Rockatansky.
Plot overview and character development
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga spans more than ten years, beginning with the abduction of the protagonist by the armies of warlord Dementus (Christopher Hemsworth) and ending with her promotion to the position of Imperator, taking place years before Fury Road's events. Tom Burke portrays Praetorian Jack, a military commander who develops a friendship with Furiosa. John Howard, Nathan Jones, and Angus Sampson are among the Fury Road actors who return in cameo appearances.
A huge Biker Horde, led by Warlord Dementus, kidnapped young Furiosa from the Green Place of Many Mothers at the end of the world. They travel through the Wasteland until they arrive at the Immortan Joe's Citadel. Furiosa faces numerous challenges as she assembles the tools to return home, while the two Tyrants battle for control.
Production history and challenges
At first, Miller planned to film Fury Road and Furiosa simultaneously, but the former became stuck in development purgatory for a while due to salary conflicts with Warner Bros. Pictures, the distributor of Fury Road, and the second delay. Producer Doug Mitchell, composer Tom Holkenborg, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and editor Margaret Sixel, Miller's wife, were among the staff members who returned for Furiosa from Fury Road. Lathouris was also one of them. The makers spent June through October 2022 filming in Australia.
On May 15, 2024, during the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga had its world premiere. While reviewers gave the film favourable marks, it bombed at the box office, earning only $172.8 million out of a $168 million budget.
